COC ELECTION RESULTS
The County Committee met Thursday, December 6, and counted received ballots for the COC election. Destiny ‘Duff’ Haase was re-elected to the County Committee for a second three-year term. The County Committee (COC) system is a critical part of the Farm Service Agency and we thank each one of the COC members who make the commitment to serve.
PLC PAYMENTS – SUNFLOWERS
This past week FSA announced the final payment rate 2017 Price Loss Coverage (PLC) for sunflowers and various other oilseed crops. The final payment rate for sunflowers was .0295 per pound. The Kiowa County FSA Office issued payments to producers who elected PLC for sunflowers Tuesday, December 4.
MARKET FACILITATION PROGRAM
The FSA Office has not received notification if the second payment on the other half of the harvested production will be issued. If a second payment rate is announced, producers who have received the first payment, the second payment will be issued promptly.
INCOME FOR TAXES
With the issuance of the 2017 sunflower PLC payments, the potential for a second payment of the Marketing Facilitation Program (MFP) and possible CRP cost share payments, some producers may not wish to have this income in the 2018 tax year. Unfortunately, when payments are due, and producers are deemed eligible those payment must be issued. However, for the MFP payment, producers can control when that payment is issued. Producers, who do not want the MFP payment in 2018 tax year, DO NOT provide the evidence of production until after the first of the year.
