Ways you can show your gratitude to veterans
Military veterans from all over receive a lot of thanks on November 11, Veteran's Day, but they deserve to hear it more often. Let's spread the appreciation with these ways you can show your gratitude to veterans.
Volunteer your time to show thanks
One touching way to give back to our veterans is to volunteer our time and clear our schedules. Communities around the nation open their doors to volunteer opportunities to support and thank the veterans who live in the area.
For another way to commemorate the sacrifice many of our veterans have made, consider donating to support homeless veterans. Even the smallest donation can have a lasting effect on a veteran's future and day-to-day life.
Write letters of appreciation
Soldiers who receive deployment orders often get letters from schoolchildren that show a lot of love and compassion. Don't stop the appreciation once the service member leaves; keep it going by sending overseas letters of gratitude and support for their duty to the country.
Fly a flag in their honor
You can do things like donating canned foods to veteran military families or assisting in building a new home. However, one of the best ways to show support to a family or a single veteran is by hanging their military branch's flag.
The flag, either from the Marines, Army, or Navy, does more than wave in the wind. It helps local veterans understand that they’re in a supportive environment and people want to thank them for their service.
Go up and simply say, "Thank you for your service!"
Sometimes, we don't feel we do enough to show appreciation, but simply going up to a service member, whether active duty or not, and shaking their hand or giving a hug can mean the world to them.
This year, make it a goal to show appreciation to one veteran a day, week, or month. That way, veterans know they have support and love no matter where they go in life.
Start by trying out one of these wonderful ways you can show your gratitude to veterans. From a simple handshake to donating secondhand items, military veterans will appreciate the generosity no matter what you give.
