Wheat Field Days schedule set with stops across eastern Colorado

Colorado State University Crops Testing Program within CSU’s department of Soil and Crop Sciences is hosting wheat field day plot tours across eastern Colorado in June. The field days are free and open for anyone to attend, and no is registration necessary.

Colorado State University’s Crops Testing Program is hosting the 2025 Wheat Field Days June 4-6 and June 10. 

They are made possible by farmer-cooperators, seed company and industry partners, and people from the CSU Departments of Soil and Crop Sciences and Agricultural Biology, the Agricultural Experiment Station, CSU Extension, Colorado Wheat, and the USDA-ARS. The Field Days include a walk-through of the official CSU Wheat Variety Trial entries with wheat breeder Dr. Esten Mason, the Crops Testing Program director Sally Jones-Diamond, and seed company representatives. 

CSU faculty and experts will also share the latest information and research on wheat entomology and pathology, and Colorado seed programs.

Schedule and Directions

Wednesday, June 4:

  • Akron at 8:15 a.m. USDA-ARS Central Plains Research Center.  Directions: Meet at USDA shed north of hwy.  From Akron, east on Hwy 34 for 4 mi to CR GG. Turn north on CR GG, and take first turn to west towards shop.  GPS: 40.1536078, -103.1376071

Thursday, June 5:

  • Walsh at 10 a.m.  CSU Plainsman Research Center. Directions: From west side of Walsh, north 4 mi on Rd 43, west 1.5 mi on Rd HH. Research station on south side of Rd HH. GPS: 37.4345, -102.3192
  • Brandon (Sheridan Lake) at 4 p.m.  Scherler Farms.  Directions: From Hwy 96 west of Brandon, north 7 miles on CR 58 (curves west 1 mile, then back north), east side of road at bulk tanks (1/4 mi. south of county road W). GPS: 38.53855, -102.46983

Friday, June 6:

  • Burlington at 8 a.m. Hinkhouse/Yahn Site. Directions:  From I-70 exit 437 go south on highway 385 for ½ mile to county road U. Turn west. South side of county road, NE dryland corner of pivot. GPS: 39.28622, -102.27941
  • Genoa at 11:30 a.m. Homestead Farms. Directions: From I-70 exit 371, go north on Hwy 109/CR 31 for 5.6 miles. Field on west side. GPS: 39.38035, -103.47343
  • Roggen at 4:30 p.m. Cooksey Family Farms. Directions: From Prospect Valley, take Hwy 52 east 7 miles to CR 83, then south 1/4 mile. Field on east side of road. GPS: 40.06925, -104.28141

Tuesday, June 10:

  • Julesburg at 8:00 a.m. Carlson Farms.  Directions: From I-76 exit 172 (Ovid), south on CR 29 for 6 mi to CR 14.  East on CR 14 for 2.4 mi (from Hwy 385 go west 5.7 mi on CR 14) to farm yard and shop on south side. Plot tour after meal. GPS: 40.8363, -102.34011
