A cold front that continues to drop across eastern Colorado will bring cooler temperatures for the weekend.

Friday’s highs will be mainly in the mid-60s to mid-70s across the eastern plains. Light rain is expected across the mountains and plains through midday, with some potential for thunderstorms later in the day.

Beginning July 1, the fee for a Colorado driver license will increase by $1—from $26 to $27. Other fees are unchanged. 

This increase was a result of House Bill 16-1415, intended to offset the cost of providing Division of Motor Vehicles driver services. 

The fee for a driver license under SB-251 - the Colorado Road and Community Safety Act - will not change, since the cost of providing the service is already fully recouped. 

The Colorado Legislature passed a bill that was signed into law recently that has far-reaching implications for our state.

“Cars” is probably the most unpopular arm of the Pixar universe. The first film was only moderately well-received, the sequel was the first eligible Pixar film not to be nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, and the two “Planes” spinoffs (which are from a non-Pixar branch of Disney) are direct-to-DVD-quality garbage. To be clear, I liked the first two “Cars” movies and I don’t think Pixar has ever made a “bad” movie, but I don’t know why they’re dead-set on expending this franchise when they keep hitting a wall with anthropomorphic vehicles.

Colorado Lightning Safety Awareness Week continues through tomorrow. Today we discuss lightning medical issues for survivors.

The facts about lightning strike victims:

In Colorado, nearly a half million cloud-to-ground lightning flashes are documented each year. With millions of visitors and extensive outdoor activities, it is not surprising that, each year on average, three people are killed by lightning in the state of Colorado while 13 are injured. Last year, two people were killed by lightning in the Centennial State while seven were injured.

On June 8, 2017, some of our Kiowa County 4-H members traveled to Rocky Ford to participate in the District VI Creative Cooks & Cake Decorating Contests.  This is an annual event that involves 4-H members from all area counties.
