The 2024 Kiowa County Fair has come to an end. The week of the fair is a busy time for youth involved in 4-H, FFA, and sports. Those involved in livestock find themselves in a whirlwind of washing, feeding, and presenting their livestock to the judges. With lower livestock numbers for 2024 we still saw high quality animals brought to the show and sale. I want to Thank our Judges, Poultry and Rabbits David Crossland, Lamar Community College with Instructor Brian Gauck Ph.D. for bringing a team of students for Round Robin, and Madi Shults from Cheyenne Wyoming to judge the big 4 species, Goat, Swine, Beef, and Sheep. We have received many compliments about the judge’s critique of the livestock and the positive comments to the youth and their projects.

All the volunteers that come together to make the shows and sale happen. First, Flock Auctions LLC, Charlene Flock, Thank you for donating your time and resources to clerking our sell. Our Auctioneers worked double hard this year as only two were available, Thank you Les Ohlhauser and Todd Natale. Cody Fox for jumping in the ring and helping take bids from the crowd. Thank you to Nancy Walker for your administrative help through the shows and sale. Last, but most importantly the Junior Livestock Committee, Tim Trosper, Rod Cole, Junior McDowell, Mark and Michelle Nelson,  and Nathaniel and Holly Mitchek. You all jump right in and get the kids where they need to be when they need to be there.

This year the FFA members and Mr. Lenox started up a Pee Wee showmanship show for Goat, Sheep, and Swine. It went well for the first year and we all look forward to it happening every year now. The FFA Members and Mr. Lenox did a great job organizing and helping the young kids’ show. Thank you all for putting this together.
