“Dear friends, let us Love one another.” I John 4:7

We are excited for the 16th annual Eads Maine Street Bash this Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Trent Rittgers will flood the street festival with his deejay music until 6:00 p.m. when Jamie Crocket and his daughter, Echo, a university student, will be singing on the stage. At 7:00 p.m., Jared Weeks from Los Angeles, California, will introduce his new album, “Another Week.” From 8:00 to 10:30 p.m. Rhett Uhland and his band, “Morning Shakes,” from Texas will entertain his home area fans and others. This is all free. All day people can enjoy shopping at the vendor booths, food nooks, and watching the youth and children play in the Kids Zone. For a cool respite one can look at the Gloria Peck Memorial Quilt Show in the Eads Senior Citizen Center and the quilts on display in the museum. There will be free movies all day. Karl Eikenberg and Krystal Eikenberg are organizing an amazing car show on Maine that will also feature motorcycles in the street display and the parade from the north side of town. There will be some chairs and tables, but you may want to bring your own comfortable lawn chair for this fantastic fun day and night planed by the Crow-Luther Cultural Events Center board. They surely could use the help of some adults and lithe youth to set up the stage and lights between 8:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. This is for the music, presentations, and dancing in the street. There will be a beer garden as well as Corn Hole and horseshoe tournaments also. So much is planned it is difficult to include it all. Just come out of your homes, get some free social life, and visit or observe your happy neighbors.

Another addition is the drawing of big prizes for the Town of Eads swimming pool fundraiser. Take your bid money to Robin Fox in Town of Eads office for one of several great prizes.

Happy 62nd birthday to two pretty and charming twin sisters, Johnnie Brown and Peggy (Brown) Blodgett of Chivington.

Need a job? There will be seven chances for a job at Weisbrod Hospital in the dietary and housekeeping departments since students are returning to high school and colleges in early August.

We are proud of Trice Watts, Eads High School graduate, who is doing well as the CEO and Administrator of Greeley County Hospital District across the state line in Kansas. He is the son of Milton and Dawn Ray Watts of Eads, and recently was engaged to the lovely Brittanie Newman, formerly of Eads.

Floyd and Phyllis Griswould are enjoying the summer months at the beautiful green hilltop property in eastern Oklahoma of their son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Liza.

Diane O’Brian (Rich) had the misfortune to break her ankle in a fall in their home. We are praying that she heals enough to fly to Chicago to the wedding of their granddaughter.

Friends of Charles Crow are missing seeing him around town. I have seen him doing better in his rehabilitation.

Brown Funeral Home announced the deaths of three persons connected with Kiowa County last week. Marvin McCrary, who was married to Louise Weisdorfer, died after being in the Weisbrod Hospital extended care unit for several years. Lennie Dean Verhoeff of Towner has passed. Sadly, a young mother, Erica Arnold, died in an auto accident. She is the daughter of Missy Barlow Jones. Here funeral was Saturday morning in Eads.

Dusty Eikenberg of Haswell has continued to delight customers again this year with his potted flower arrangements and now fresh home grown vegetables and fruits. Saturday, July 30, he will be at the highway roadside park in Eads. It is near a sign stating this is a “Tree City USA - 28 years.” This honor is mostly due the work of Joyce Berry. Bless her heart! Have you noticed how wonderfully that she and Cardon clean up pinecones, mow, and trim the plants at the Horseshoe Park? Thank you to these faithful volunteers.

The Eads senior citizens enjoyed one of their favorite meals in rooms decorated in red, white, and blue. Our director, Gail Voss, served fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy with all those wonderful foods that ladies brought. Guest speaker was Brenda Fickenscher of the Southeast Mental Health Center board of Eads. She made us more aware of how to recognize types of depression, loneliness, and suicide potential that can be upon us or our friends, and what we might do as friends and family members for them. These are helpful people who counsel and help families right here in Eads. She gave us cards and information booklets to share. Remember, you are not alone.

Keri DeWitt and her husband, Tom Majchrouski, and young Grant and Gracie, have moved out of Orange, California, to the beautiful woodland area of Missouri near where Keri grew up before she and her parents moved to Eads. Her father was a banker here, and Keri graduated in 1985.

Living joyfully is best!
