“All things are possible with God.” Mark 10:27
Please look up at the scripture that “all things are possible with God.” I like that scripture from Mark. It reminds me of how true this is in my life and many of my acquaintances. Having a positive attitude about our lives is also a key factor to a happier life, don’t you think?
Greetings, Dear Readers. As I type this message Saturday night, it is 15 degrees below in Eads. We had a light snow, which has brought frigid cold weather. One day last week when I thought it sounded cold outside at -12 degrees, it was -28 degree in Wisconsin where my niece, Ella Hirsch Eisenman, lives. Now, Sunday, it is no doubt much colder. I am glad that my grandparents immigrated to Colorado. I am just so grateful to be living in Eads, where I am warm and safe. I have a good life here.
The Eads senior citizen noon dinner was the place to be for fun and fellowship last week. Gail Voss had spent extra time before the meal making and baking bierocks. Some people have asked me, what’s that? It is a filling of ground beef with chopped cabbage, onions, and spices baked in yeast dough buns. Guests brought lots of salads, cream pies, cakes, and Gail’s baked beans. Sylvia Weeks conducted the business meeting. We heard about groups who heard about our center’s Bingo night, and signed several birthday cards.
The Eads Eagle teams traveled to another “Eagle country” - Stratton - Friday night. As the buzzer rang, the Lady Eagles won a tied game. The boys lost, but they are gaining in skills.
Because of the icy weather, the basketball game up north Saturday with Idalia was postponed. Although making up a game is unhandy, it surely is wiser for our precious students and fans when you consider the icy roads.
The highlight of each month for the residents of Weisbrod is the visit of our “adopted Grandchildren” from the Eads third grade, who are taught by their teacher, Charlene Gifford. Many of us think she deserves a “National Teachers Award” for her many years of service in carrying on the program from her classroom. The children are so well-behaved and so kind. They get along so well, and are caring of one another. We do love them and their visits. Each month, visit they, their teacher, and our Activity Director, Brenda Leon, work together for us to enjoy a craft activity with our child friend, and enjoy refreshments. We also watched them do a game activity. Brenda had them stand in a close circle and gave a ball to each student to pass on to the next person without talking, groaning, smiling. As they proceeded the circle became very small down to three students, Caroline Buck, Teller Eder, and Sawyer Uhland. After that we colored and glued scarves, eyes, a straw hat and shovel on a large snowflake man, so that the parts became a nice poster on our doors. We enjoyed cookies and lemonade, too. We were blessed Thursday afternoon when they walked over to bring some unfinished posters. What a joy to see them again.
We really so appreciate when Liz Hulteen goes to town and brings me back fresh flowers to arrange for tables and some rooms. We are so blessed to have an excellent floral-gift shop full time now in Eads across 13th Street from GN Bank with owner, Trista Tuttle.
Brenda Leon surely made Thursday a fun day for us by having “Dolly Parton Day.” She wore a big curly bouffant wig with a long Navaho design jacket and lots of turquoise jewelry as she organized games. The best thing about this day was that some members of the Hospital Auxiliary came to help us play Bingo. Kara Wilson, our student volunteer, called the Bingo games until she needed to get back to Eads High School. While we were having this fun activity, Brenda was arranging toppings and slicing bananas for banana splits. Oh! It reminded me of the wonderful treat times my parents, Virgil and Ida, gave us once in a while when they would take us to the drug store in Eads for an ice cream treat. What wonderful parents we had!
Our dear friend, Lola Igou, died this weekend. I will always cherish her memory. She would stop to greet us here in the Extended Care Unit. When she saw me, she took my hand and said, “I love you.” Friends, that is a good loving quality about Lola. No doubt, her sharing her loving thoughts is also why so many of her family members came from several states and have stayed by her bedside all week. It was delightful to see all the little ones and their parents and grandparents. Her memorial will be in Eads at Prairie Pines Assisted Living Community after her burial near Karval.
We were sad to see the Broncos loose to the Patriots football team during a fast falling snow storm.
