“Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

Oh, what a fun-packed week the first full week of October was. It was more pleasant than last because it was warmer and we could go outside more. Several people enjoyed visiting over coffee at the Eads Senior Citizen Center Monday. It was nice for people to go for walks or cycling. It is good to have Wednesday come each week because many of us can go to Sean Oquist, a chiropractor, who keeps office hours here in Eads at the Weisbrod Annex. I am a strong believer in the service and care of a chiropractor. We are blessed to have Meridith (Koch) Cordova, a chiropractor, live right here in Eads and give adjustments at her home on Slater Street near Town Hall.

Tuesday afternoon many of us wore our Eads Eagle T-shirts that Kailee Lane Darnell designed for us. With the help of Weisbrod staff and friends, we went up to the high school to watch the ending middle school volleyball matches with Holly. Then we watched and cheered for the high school teams. Some of the players are especially dear to us because they are granddaughters or nieces, and many of them happen to work here or have school class time as volunteers or shadowing the professional workers. What a very valuable chance to actually see this career in action, to see and experience a person actually working the type of health career they may be able to study for. We really like to see these wonderful senior boys and girls. We are pleased and proud to see how handsome and attractive they are. They are outstanding in grooming and character.

High school golf season has ended. Aiden Hough and Karston Buller closed their season out by earning high enough points to earn places to compete at the state tournament.

Dara Randel and Sara Crawford, both of Kit Carson, have shared the sad news that Elizabeth Cox came home from a Mary Kay weekend convention to find her home had burned down. Her husband and two children are safe, but their family is in need of all house goods and clothing. Elizabeth was an Eads graduate. Let us pray for her family.

When you listen to the news or read newspapers about the voting, which is happening soon, we are reminded to do what is best for our nation. Do you get the thought, “I want to make the best decisions in voting, but how do I know the truth?” I encourage you to do your research.

The Future Business Leaders of America group will be hosting a fundraiser supper October 15 in the cafeteria from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Their sponsor-teacher is Denise Nelson.

The Town of Eads is advertising for town clerk and assistant town clerk, and also for street crew worker and maintenance worker. Please contact Dennis Pearson, PO Box 345, Eads, CO 81036, or email pearsondo1949@gmail.com.

Friday afternoon was so warm and wonderful for Johnny Leon’s concert on the patio at Weisbrod Health. John sings mostly western love songs and ballads, which we like. We were entertained even more by a wonderful “dancer,” Dwana Eaton Salisbury, of Lamar. She is a tiny, thin, retired kindergarten teacher and an avid cowgirl who travels all year to rodeos around the country to barrel race and train horses. Director Brenda Leon served us choices of really yummy ice cream treats. Lucy Barnett and I liked the frozen ice cream cones topped with chocolate and nuts best. We liked to watch Dwana dance around the patio as she engaged the residents and staff in impromptu dancing. I loved to see her “dance” with her Aunt Vera by moving her in the wheelchair. Then she stood her mother, Donna, up from her wheelchair to sway to the music. What fun we had as we listened to Johnny sing!

We are looking forward to the coming live theater play at the Plains Theatre. “The Vampire’s Garden” is an original play written by Teri Kay Jobe. The performances will be on four nights, October 16–17 and 23–24, at 7:00 p.m.

There was a great turnout of golfers who participated in the 4th Annual Eads Alumni Golf Tournament at the Eads golf course. Some of the hole prize winners were Connie Richardson, Lonnie Eder, Jaimie Crocket, Dayne Eaton, Dawna Peck, and Stephanie Bohlander. The golfers had a good time laughing and competing. One upset was that Liam Eder and his partner, Conner Barnes, won a prize over Liam’s grandparents, Kip and Dawna Peck.

A committee is planning a spectacular alumni reunion for September 2027 during the county fair days.

The Haswell Fall Bazaar and lunch will be at the Haswell Community Building Saturday. Come to look and buy some of the great goodies from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

There was a lovely reception at the Eads Post Office to say “Thank you” and “Goodbye” to our dear retiring postmaster, Susie Paintin. She and her family will live in Tribune, Kansas.

Let’s have a birthday card shower for Delton Eikenberg, who will be 65 on October 21. Please send cards to Delton at Box 35, Haswell, CO 81045.
