Ag stats: August 2021 mountain states grain stock report

ARIZONA 

Off-farm corn stocks in Arizona on September 1, 2021 were 1.67 million bushels, down 20 percent from September 1, 2020, according to the September 1 Agricultural Survey and September Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Off-farm all wheat stocks in Arizona on September 1, 2021 were 5.62 million bushels, up 10 percent from September 1, 2020. Other Arizona grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

COLORADO 

Corn stocks in Colorado on September 1, 2021 were 9.66 million bushels, down 37 percent from September 1, 2020, according to the September 1 Agricultural Survey and September Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Corn stocks stored on farms amounted to 3.60 million bushels, compared to 5.30 million bushels a year ago. Corn stored off farms amounted to 6.06 million bushels, down 39 percent from a year ago. Sorghum stored off-farm were 400,000 bushels, up 22 percent from last year. Oats stored off-farm were 52,000 bushels, down 19 percent from last year. Off-farm barley stocks totaled 3.92 million bushels, down 37 percent from last year. 

All wheat stocks in Colorado on September 1, 2021 were 63.54 million bushels, up 27 percent from September 1, 2020. All wheat stocks stored on farms amounted to 22.50 million bushels, up 36 percent from a year ago. All wheat stored off farms amounted to 41.04 million bushels, up 23 percent from a year ago. Other Colorado grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

MONTANA 

Oat stocks in Montana on September 1, 2021 were 786,000 bushels, down 34 percent from September 1, 2020, according to the September 1 Agricultural Survey and September Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Off-farm oat stocks were 36,000 bushels, down 25 percent from a year ago and on-farm oat stocks were 750,000 bushels, down 35 percent from a year ago. Montana barley stocks in all positions on September 1, 2021 were 31.51 million bushels, down 37 percent from a year ago. Barley stored on farms totaled 22.00 million bushels, down 46 percent from last year. Off-farm barley stocks were up 10 percent from a year ago to 9.51 million bushels. 

All wheat stocks in Montana on September 1, 2021 were 105.55 million bushels, down 51 percent from September 1, 2020. All wheat stocks stored on farms amounted to 71.00 million bushels, down 58 percent from a year ago. All wheat stored off farms amounted to 34.55 million bushels, down 29 percent from a year ago. Durum wheat stocks on September 1, 2021 were 10.11 million bushels, down 59 percent from a year ago. Durum wheat stocks stored on farms amounted to 7.80 million bushels, down 64 percent from a year ago and Durum wheat stored off farms amounted to 2.31 million bushels, down 29 percent from a year ago. Other Montana grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

NEW MEXICO 

New Mexico grain stocks on September 1, 2021 were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

UTAH 

Off-farm corn stocks in Utah on September 1, 2021 were 300,000 bushels, according to the September 1 Agricultural Survey and September Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. 

Oats stored off-farm were 20,000 bushels, down 33 percent from last year. Off-farm all wheat stocks in Utah on September 1, 2021 were 5.55 million bushels, down 5 percent from last year. Other Utah grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

WYOMING 

Off-farm barley stocks in Wyoming on September 1, 2021 were 2.45 million bushels, down 47 percent from September 1, 2020, according to the September 1 Agricultural Survey and September Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Other Wyoming grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

UNITED STATES 

Old crop corn stocks in all positions on September 1, 2021 totaled 1.24 billion bushels, down 36 percent from September 1, 2020. Of the total stocks, 395 million bushels are stored on farms, down 47 percent from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, at 842 million bushels, are down 28 percent from a year ago. The June - August 2021 indicated disappearance is 2.87 billion bushels, compared with 3.08 billion bushels during the same period last year. 

Based on an analysis of end-of-marketing year stock estimates, disappearance data for exports, and farm program administrative data, the 2020 corn for grain production is revised down 71.0 million bushels from the previous estimate. Corn silage production is revised down 54 thousand tons. Planted area is revised to 90.7 million acres, and area harvested for grain is revised to 82.3 million acres. Area harvested for silage is revised to 6.71 million acres. The 2020 grain yield, at 171.4 bushels per acre, is down 0.6 bushel from the previous estimate. The 2020 silage yield, at 20.5 tons per acre, remains unchanged from the previous estimate. 

Old crop grain sorghum stored in all positions on September 1, 2021 totaled 20.3 million bushels, down 32 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at 588 thousand bushels, are down 80 percent from last year. Off-farm stocks, at 19.8 million bushels, are down 27 percent from September 1, 2020. The June - August 2021 indicated disappearance from all positions is 20.6 million bushels, down 51 percent from the same period a year ago. 

Oats stored in all positions on September 1, 2021 totaled 62.1 million bushels, 7 percent below the stocks on September 1, 2020. Of the total stocks on hand, 32.2 million bushels are stored on farms, 19 percent lower than a year ago. Off-farm stocks totaled 30.0 million bushels, 11 percent above the previous year. Indicated disappearance during June - August 2021 totaled 15.8 million bushels, compared with 35.6 million bushels during the same period a year ago. 

Barley stocks in all positions on September 1, 2021 totaled 135 million bushels, down 25 percent from September 1, 2020. On-farm stocks are estimated at 77.7 million bushels, 29 percent below a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 57.5 million bushels, are 18 percent below September 2020. The June - August 2021 indicated disappearance is 53.9 million bushels, 25 percent below the same period a year earlier. 

All wheat stored in all positions on September 1, 2021 totaled 1.78 billion bushels, down 18 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks are estimated at 419 million bushels, down 41 percent from last September. Off-farm stocks, at 1.36 billion bushels, are down 6 percent from a year ago. The June - August 2021 indicated disappearance is 711 million bushels, up 2 percent from the same period a year earlier. 

Durum wheat stocks in all positions on September 1, 2021 totaled 46.9 million bushels, down 34 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at 21.0 million bushels, are down 52 percent from September 1, 2020. Off-farm stocks totaled 25.9 million bushels, down 6 percent from a year ago. The June - August 2021 indicated disappearance of 17.7 million bushels is down 56 percent from the same period a year earlier. 

Old crop soybeans stored in all positions on September 1, 2021 totaled 256 million bushels, down 51 percent from September 1, 2020. Soybean stocks stored on farms totaled 68.1 million bushels, down 52 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 188 million bushels, are down 51 percent from last September. Indicated disappearance for June - August 2021 totaled 513 million bushels, down 40 percent from the same period a year earlier. 

Based on an analysis of end-of-marketing year stock estimates, disappearance data for exports and crushings, and farm program administrative data, the 2020 soybean production is revised up 80.8 million bushels from the previous estimate. Planted area is revised to 83.4 million acres, and harvested area is revised to 82.6 million acres. The 2020 yield, at 51.0 bushels per acre, is up 0.8 bushel from the previous estimate. 

Old crop sunflower stocks in all positions on September 1, 2021 totaled 388 million pounds, up 100 percent from a year ago. All stocks stored on farms totaled 68.1 million pounds and off-farm stocks totaled 320 million pounds. Stocks of oil type sunflower seed are 298 million pounds; of this total, 60.3 million pounds are on-farm stocks and 238 million pounds are off-farm stocks. Non-oil sunflower stocks totaled 89.6 million pounds, with 7.80 million pounds stored on the farm and 81.8 million pounds stored off the farm.
