Ag stats: Kansas crop progress and condition report – week ending July 24, 2022

For the week ending July 24, 2022, there were 6.8 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 39% very short, 36% short, 24% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 36% very short, 35% short, 28% adequate, and 1% surplus. 

Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 12% very poor, 19% poor, 30% fair, 32% good, and 7% excellent. Corn silking was 61%, behind 73% last year and 74% for the five-year average. Dough was 19%, near 22% last year, and behind 25% average. 

Soybean condition rated 4% very poor, 15% poor, 30% fair, 45% good, and 6% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 50%, behind 58% last year and 59% average. Setting pods was 11%, behind 23% both last year and average. 

Sorghum condition rated 11% very poor, 16% poor, 42% fair, 29% good, and 2% excellent. Sorghum headed was 11%, behind 21% last year and 19% average. 

Cotton condition rated 2% very poor, 11% poor, 52% fair, 33% good, and 2% excellent. Cotton squaring was 97%, ahead of 81% last year, and well ahead of 71% average. Setting bolls was 40%, well ahead of 11% last year and 13% average. 

Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 25% very poor, 18% poor, 32% fair, 24% good, and 1% excellent.
