Ag stats: Kansas crop progress and condition report – week ending July 31, 2022

For the week ending July 31, 2022, there were 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 24% very short, 35% short, 40% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 30% very short, 39% short, 31% adequate, and 0% surplus. 

Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 15% very poor, 18% poor, 31% fair, 30% good, and 6% excellent. Corn silking was 74%, behind 86% last year and 85% for the five-year average. Dough was 29%, behind 43% last year and 42% average. 

Soybean condition rated 5% very poor, 14% poor, 35% fair, 40% good, and 6% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 65%, near 69% last year, and behind 70% average. Setting pods was 25%, behind 37% both last year and average. 

Sorghum condition rated 10% very poor, 20% poor, 40% fair, 28% good, and 2% excellent. Sorghum headed was 21%, behind 40% last year and 34% average. Coloring was 1%, near 3% last year and 2% average. 

Cotton condition rated 2% very poor, 23% poor, 40% fair, 32% good, and 3% excellent. Cotton setting bolls was 61%, well ahead of 38% last year and 26% average. 

Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 29% very poor, 20% poor, 29% fair, 21% good, and 1% excellent.
