Ag stats: Kansas crop progress and condition report – week ending October 3, 2021
For the week ending October 3, 2021, there were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 14% very short, 32% short, 51% adequate, and 3% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 15% very short, 34% short, 50% adequate, and 1% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Winter wheat planted was 42%, behind 53% last year, but near 41% for the five-year average. Emerged was 16%, behind 26% last year, and near 19% average.
Corn condition rated 8% very poor, 13% poor, 27% fair, 42% good, and 10% excellent. Corn mature was 92%, near 91% last year and 88% average. Harvested was 51%, ahead of 42% last year and 43% average.
Soybean condition rated 5% very poor, 7% poor, 30% fair, 50% good, and 8% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 70%, behind 80% last year, but near 69% average. Harvested was 14%, behind 19% last year, but near 11% average.
Sorghum condition rated 4% very poor, 9% poor, 31% fair, 48% good, and 8% excellent. Sorghum mature was 70%, near 67% last year, and ahead of 58% average. Harvested was 19%, ahead of 13% last year and 12% average.
Cotton condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 38% fair, 53% good, and 4% excellent. Cotton bolls opening was 71%, ahead of 63% last year and 58% average. Harvested was 1%, equal to last year, and near 2% average.
Sunflowers harvested was 10%, ahead of 3% last year and 5% average.
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 8% very poor, 17% poor, 38% fair, 35% good, and 2% excellent.
