Temperatures were at or below normal in Wyoming for the week ending October 30, 2022, according to the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Portions of the southwest saw temperatures as much as 8 degrees below average.

Precipitation was also below normal for most of the State. Portions of the northwest, north central, and south-central Wyoming, however, received slightly above average amounts of precipitation.

Drought conditions held steady. According to the United States Drought Monitor published on October 27, 2022, the amount of land rated drought free stood at 14.1 percent, down 0.1 percentage point from the previous week. The amount of land rated abnormally dry was 32.4 percent, down slightly from 34.5 percent the previous week. Moderate drought was found in 27.4 percent of the State, compared to 28.5 percent the previous week. Severe drought increased to 22.6 percent, up 3.3 percentage points. Extreme drought remained unchanged at 3.5 percent.

Some cattle ranchers in Carbon County were again seeing a high percentage of open cows coming in from summer grazing.

Livestock producers in Goshen County continued to feed hay, sell livestock, and cull herds.

Winter wheat fields that received moisture at the start of the month continued to grow. Some famers were still waiting for moisture in corn to fall to harvest.

With the weather turning cool during the day and cold at night, Lincoln County received some snow. Winter was expected to arrive soon.

In Platte County, winds increased and dried out fields and pastures. Both high moisture corn and corn silage were harvested.

Corn for grain harvest was also picking up speed. Stock water supplies across Wyoming were rated 8 percent very short, 54 percent short, 37 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus, compared to 11 percent very short, 55 percent short, and 34 percent adequate last week.
