Another earthquake has been recorded in western Colorado, bringing the count to five in western Colorado over the past 30 days, and 28 for Colorado since the start of the year.

Saturday’s quake struck shortly after 9:30 a.m. and was located southwest of Rangely in Rio Blanco county. It measured 2.6 on the Richter Scale, and occurred about three miles below the surface according to the United States Geological Survey. No damage has been reported.

Over the past month, four other earthquakes have been recorded in the area, with three occurring just outside of Rangely. The strongest, measuring 3.8, occurred April 22. Two additional quakes near Rangely, measuring 2.6 and 3.3, occurred April 27 and May 3, respectively. The fourth quake measured 2.0 and was located north of Palisade. It occurred May 10.

Most of the earthquakes in Colorado this year have struck in the western half of the state, including a series of 18 quakes over a 10-day period near Snowmass Village in Pitkin and Gunnison counties.
