An 18-year-old suspect was arrested early Saturday following a fatal shooting in La Junta, with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation assisting local police in the case, authorities said.

Anthony Barron Sandoval Jr., 18, was arrested February 14 on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 17-year-old man. He is being held on a $500,000 bond, according to investigators.

Officers with the La Junta Police Department responded about 1:51 a.m. to a report of a man who had been fatally shot at a home in the 1400 block of Belleview Avenue. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The Otero County Coroner’s Office is expected to release the victim’s identity.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation assisted La Junta police, the lead agency, by helping conduct interviews with witnesses at the home. Following the interviews, officers arrested the suspect later that day.

Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact the La Junta Police Department. Investigators said additional updates will be released as they become available.
