The chance for showers and thunderstorms - some possibly severe - returns to Kiowa County Monday afternoon into the evening.

Low 80s are expected during the day across most of the county, though Arlington could see mid-80s. Overnight, mid-50s are expected throughout the area.

The day starts with mostly sunny skies and light wind. By the afternoon, more clouds are expected, and southeast wind will gust to the 15-20 mile per hour range.

Strong and possibly severe thunderstorms are predicted later in the afternoon, with potential increasing to 70 percent during the evening.  The central portion of the county can look for a quarter to a half inch of rain while other areas may see one-tenth inch or less. Where thunderstorms form, greater amounts are possible, potentially causing flash flooding. Storms are predicted to form over mountain areas by midday, spreading to the eastern plains through the afternoon.

Similar conditions are predicted for Tuesday.
