Ten separate crashes struck southbound Interstate 25 west of Windsor Saturday. Two were hit-and-run crashes. No injuries were reported.

Colorado's Interstate highways have seen costly pileups this year, including a multi-vehicle crash near the Eisenhower Tunnel that sent 19 people to hospital in April 2026.

The first crash happened at about 6:31 a.m. near milepost 262, south of County Road 32, in Larimer County. More crashes followed between milepost 259, at Crossroads Boulevard, and milepost 262. The Colorado State Patrol is leading the investigation into all of the crashes.

The right lane of southbound Interstate 25 near milepost 261, south of East County Road 30, was closed. The road reopened at about 8:00 a.m. It was closed for about one hour and 30 minutes.

The first crash was a hit-and-run. Early reports say a Kia Seltos was heading south near milepost 262. Traffic was coming to a stop. The Kia braked and swerved into the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane. A dark-colored pickup following the Kia struck it and then fled. The Kia's driver, a 28-year-old female, was taken to a local hospital without injuries.

About 15 minutes later, a second crash happened near milepost 261. A Hyundai Tucson, driven by a 41-year-old female, was stopped in traffic in the middle lane. A Honda Civic, driven by a 28-year-old female, struck the rear of the Tucson. No injuries were reported.

The third and fourth crashes also happened near milepost 261. A Chevrolet Traverse, driven by a 61-year-old female, slowed suddenly for stopped traffic in the middle lane. A Subaru Forester, driven by a 31-year-old male, struck the rear of the Chevrolet. A Mazda CX5, driven by a 34-year-old female, then struck the rear of the Subaru. No injuries were reported in either crash.

The fifth crash involved three vehicles near milepost 263. A Ford Bronco, driven by a 19-year-old female, and a Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by a 24-year-old female, were slowing in the middle lane. A Toyota Highlander, driven by a 30-year-old female, struck the Mitsubishi and the Ford. No injuries were reported at the time of the crash.

The sixth crash also involved three vehicles near milepost 263. A BMW 430I, driven by a 30-year-old male, was stopped in the right lane. A Honda Pilot, driven by a 31-year-old male, was stopped or moving slowly in front of it. A Subaru XV, driven by a 22-year-old female, tried to avoid stopped traffic by moving from the left lane into the right lane. The Subaru struck the rear of the BMW. That pushed the BMW into the rear of the Honda. The vehicles came to rest blocking the right lane. The Honda moved onto the right shoulder. No injuries were reported.

The seventh crash happened near milepost 261.5. A Honda HR-V, driven by a 49-year-old female, was trying to merge onto southbound Interstate 25. A Peterbilt truck tractor pulling a semi-trailer, driven by a 28-year-old male, was in the right lane. The Honda changed lanes in front of the Peterbilt when it was unsafe to do so. The left rear side of the Honda hit the right front corner of the Peterbilt. No injuries were reported.

The eighth crash was also a hit-and-run. It happened near milepost 263. A vehicle of unknown make and model struck the rear of a Subaru Outback, driven by a female of unknown age. The vehicle then fled. The Subaru's driver reported no injuries.

The ninth and tenth crashes happened in the left lane. A Jeep Gladiator, driven by a 30-year-old male, was heading south. A Toyota RAV4, driven by a 34-year-old male, was behind the Jeep. A Subaru Ascent, driven by a 38-year-old female, was behind the Toyota. The Toyota failed to slow and struck the rear of the Jeep. The Subaru then failed to slow and struck the rear of the Toyota. That caused the Toyota to strike the Jeep a second time. While the Subaru was stopped, an Audi A4, driven by a 44-year-old female, failed to stop. The Audi struck the rear of the Subaru. No injuries were reported in either crash.

The Colorado State Patrol reminds drivers that following too closely is dangerous. Leave a buffer so you can react if another vehicle stops suddenly. Traffic on Interstate 25 will continue to be crowded. Drivers should leave earlier to reach their destination and be patient during rush hour traffic.
