Colorado winter wheat varieties survey results– 2024 crop

This report provides the results of the Winter Wheat Seedings by Variety Survey, 2024 Crop, conducted by the National Agricultural StatisticsService, Mountain Regional Field Office, USDA. The survey was funded by the Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee.

Colorado wheat producers seeded an estimated 2.00 million acres to winter wheat in the fall of 2023 for harvest in 2024, down 300,000 acresfrom the 2023 crop. Amplify SF was the most popular variety seeded in Colorado, planted on 13.6 percent of the acreage for the 2024 crop,compared with 0.8 percent for the 2023 crop. Langin moved down from first place to second place, accounting for

11.6 percent of the acreage, a drop from 21.2 percent for the 2023 crop. Byrd moved up from fourth place to third place, accounting for

9.1 percent of the acreage. Avery moved down from second place to fourth place with 6.0 percent of the acreage. Byrd CL Plus moved up from seventh place to fifth place with 5.1 percent of the acreage. The top five varieties accounted for 45.4 percent of the acreage seeded. Kivari AX claimed sixth place with 4.4 percent of the acreage. Whistler took seventh place with 3.7 percent of the acreage seeded. AP Solid claimed eighth place with 3.6 percent of the acreage. Snowmass 2.0 represented ninth place with 3.5 percent of the acreage. Canvas completes the top ten with 3.4 percent of the acreage seeded.

Colorado wheat producers reported that 67.5 percent of their seed planted was certified wheat seed. Colorado wheat producers reported that 22.2percent of their seed planted was treated with fungicide or insecticide. The survey of winter wheat producers in Colorado was not sampled to provide a direct expansion of the seeded acreage by variety or a measure of the sampling error.
