A Day In The Life

By Michelle Wyckoff

Mobile Games.  Described by Google as “games designed for mobile devices, such as smartphones, feature phones, pocket PCs, personal digital devices (PDA), tablet PCs and portable media players”.  There are literally thousands of them.

I rarely play games on my phone, because to me most of them are just stupid.  In the immortal words of Forrest Gump’s momma, “Stupid is as stupid does”.  Well, I’ve joined the ranks.

I’ve dallied in a few, but I’ve learned that when you play with other people they play at all hours of the day and night.  I like to play Yahtzee, but it aggravates me when people leave for their jobs, or maybe they go shopping or out to eat or something right in the middle of the game.  They might come back hours later, or it could be days.  I hate the sound of Yahtzee dice waking me up in the middle of the night while my phone is charging.  However, I found a Yahtzee game with no competitors.  I call it ‘playing against the board’.  Just me and some tiny little something inside the phone in total silence.

Dustin left for a few days last week and I had the house all to myself.  I had lunch with a friend on Saturday, came home later in the afternoon and sat down on the couch to play.  I had things to do, so I was just going to play a few games before starting.  Imagine my surprise (and stiffness!) when I looked up and saw daylight peeking through the windows on the side of my front door!  I couldn’t believe it!   It was around 6:30 am and I had been playing since around 6:30 pm THE NIGHT BEFORE ?!  It takes about 3 minutes per game, 20 games per hour for twelve hours…..YIKES!  At least I gave as good as I got - I won about half.  This will go with me to my grave.  I’ll never mention it to Dustin…...
