Eads and the rest of Kiowa County will open the week sunny, breezy and well above normal, with a high near 84 degrees Monday, before a cold front brings cooler air and a chance of showers by Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

Monday will be sunny and breezy, with a southwest wind of 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Gusts could reach 35 mph. Monday night will be clear, with a low around 53 and a south-southwest wind of 5 to 10 mph.

A meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Sunday's Area Forecast Discussion that "the plains will remain warm and largely dry through Tuesday," with a cold front expected to bring colder and wetter conditions by Wednesday.

Cold front arrives midweek

Forecasters said the front could arrive Tuesday night, though the Pueblo office noted that the latest guidance is slower than earlier runs, meaning the front and its moisture may not reach the plains until Wednesday morning.

Wednesday brings a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before noon, with a high near 63 and a breezy northeast wind. Showers become likely Wednesday night, with a possible thunderstorm before midnight and a 60 percent chance of precipitation.

No Red Flag Warning or other fire weather product is in effect for Eads, according to the Pueblo forecast discussion, though gusty southwest winds are expected Monday.
