Fatal officer-involved shooting in Craig

Friday morning shortly before 9:00, officers from the Craig Police Department in Moffat County attempted to contact a man outside the Cool Water Grille in Craig about an outstanding warrant. The man, who has not been publicly identified, ran from officers.

When Craig Police officers and Moffat County Sheriff's deputies approached the suspect, he produced a firearm and fled. Officers shot the man, who was then taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officials say there is no ongoing threat to the public, and no one else was injured in the incident.

A Craig Police Department officer has been placed on leave, per agency policy, while an investigation of the shooting takes place. That officer has not been named.

The 14th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team is the lead agency investigating the shooting. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is providing assistance.
