October 2, 2016 at approximately 1:52 p.m., the Colorado State Patrol was notified of single vehicle rollover crash on Hwy 96 at mile post 190 in Kiowa County involving a Kiowa County Fire truck. The crash location was approximately 3 miles west of Sheridan Lake.

The 1980 Chevrolet pickup that was converted into a fire truck for Kiowa County Fire was responding to a rollover semi crash at 1:42 p.m. involving two semitrucks that were eastbound on Hwy 96 at mile post 176, also in Kiowa County.

The Kiowa fire truck lost control and rotated clockwise off the north side road edge into the borrow ditch. It continued westbound and rolled one full time coming to rest on its wheels facing north.

The driver, 26 year old Matthew Biszak of Sheridan Lake, remained in the truck as it rolled. The passenger, 24 year old Elizabeth Moore of Sheridan Lake, was ejected during the roll. She came to rest just west of the final rest of the truck. Neither the driver nor the passenger had working safety belts. Both the driver and passenger were transported to Cheyenne Wells by ambulance for medical treatment at Keefe Memorial Hospital.

The driver sustained minor injuries. The passenger sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

A mechanical inspection was completed by CSP and the safety belts were found to be functioning properly.
