You’ve had a stressful week at work, and the only thing that’s getting you through until Friday is the anticipation of your weekend vacation plans. Then, Monday morning rolls around, and you feel like you barely got to enjoy your vacation before you’re back to the grind. To help you use your time wisely and have a fun time, we’ve come up with some tips on how to get the most out of your weekend getaway.

Keep your travel time short

You might have dreams of flying across the country and grabbing a New York slice or getting some sun on a Los Angeles beach, but the amount of time these trips can take will severely reduce the moments you have to relax. Don’t replace the stress of work with the stress of travel. You only have a couple of days to enjoy yourself before you have to return home. Try to find a nice spot closer to where you live and save the big trips for instances when you have more time available.

Don’t go far

You can reduce the anxiety of travel entirely by taking a vacation in your hometown. Book a hotel room or Airbnb nearby and pack your belongings before Friday rolls around. That way, you can zoom straight from work to your staycation spot. You can explore your city, try out new restaurants, and live a vacation lifestyle while maximizing the amount of time you spend in comfort.

Fill your day with activities

You might feel like all you want to do is lounge around and move your body as little as possible. But doing this might cause you to miss out on creating memories that you can look back on when the struggle of life comes flooding back on Monday. Fill up your free days with spa treatments, hikes, museum visits, and more to make your weekend getaway feel special.

Keep yourself safe

We’re still in a bit of a weird transition period when it comes to traveling safely. Whether you’re taking a bus, train, plane, or car, you should take some precautions to keep yourself healthy when traveling. Some beneficial rules of thumb are to stay hydrated, get enough sleep, and sanitize your hands whenever possible. These hold true regardless of your specific plans.

Your weekend retreat should feel like a reward for your hard work during the week. Make sure you squeeze in as much fun as you can before it’s over.
