Lamar climbs toward 98 degrees Tuesday as Prowers County dries out
Lamar faces the hottest stretch of the week early on, with a high near 91 Monday and 98 Tuesday, before a cold front knocks temperatures back Wednesday and brings Prowers County its best rain chance in days.
Monday will be mostly sunny in Lamar, with a high near 91, according to the National Weather Service office in Pueblo. A southwest wind of 5 to 15 mph will shift to the south-southeast in the afternoon. Monday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 62 and a south-southeast wind of 5 to 15 mph.
"The upper ridge will build back in over our area on Monday, kicking the monsoon plume to our west and giving us a slightly drier day," a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Sunday's Area Forecast Discussion. Forecasters said high temperatures will climb across the board through the week, reaching the upper 90s over the eastern plains.
No warnings in effect, but heat is the story
The Pueblo forecast office listed no watches, warnings or advisories in effect as of late Sunday, and no red flag warning covered Prowers County or zone 236. A severe thunderstorm watch for the plains expired at 9 p.m. Sunday as storms moved east into Kansas.
With Tuesday's high forecast near 98 and afternoon winds remaining light to moderate, conditions across Prowers County will be hot and dry but short of the wind thresholds that typically drive fire weather headlines. Forecasters said an upper-level high building over the Four Corners will keep the region dry through midweek, with a low but non-zero chance of triple-digit readings by the weekend.
