Lamar is forecast to warm from a high near 65 Friday to near 69 Sunday under mostly cloudy skies, before a strong cold front brings rain chances and wind gusts up to 60 mph Monday, the National Weather Service in Pueblo said.

A Dense Fog Advisory for the Lamar area remains in effect until 10 a.m. Friday, with patchy dense fog before 11 a.m. Skies then stay cloudy, with south-southeast winds of 5 to 15 mph. Friday night is mostly cloudy with a low near 47 and southeast winds of 5 to 10 mph.

A meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Friday’s Area Forecast Discussion that a few showers and storms are possible Friday afternoon and evening, mainly along the Kansas border, but that none are expected to be severe and most of the rain should stay east of the area.

Cold front arrives Monday with rain and a wind shift

The Lamar forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon Monday under mostly sunny skies, with a high near 63. Southwest winds of 20 to 25 mph are forecast to turn north at 30 to 35 mph in the afternoon, with gusts as high as 60 mph. Monday night brings a 40 percent chance of showers, mainly before midnight, a low near 39 and north-northwest winds of 30 to 35 mph gusting to 60 mph.

No Red Flag Warning or Fire Weather Watch was listed for Prowers County. Gusty winds Sunday and Monday are forecast, but recent fog and low clouds have kept conditions moist. The heaviest rain and flooding concerns are in the San Juan Mountains and San Luis Valley, where a Flood Watch is in place.
