15 Years Ago - July 31, 2009

  • After 5 years of hard work the Open Pavilion at the Kiowa County Fairgrounds is becoming a reality.
  • East End Event- Sharon Scott: We must be living right in Towner. We received 1.4 to 2 inches of rain, and Monday received another .3.
  • Kit Carson Clips- Marilyn White: Let me tell you, I’d rather have a goat than a skunk fall through basement a window. We came home to strong smell and found “Peppy” had fallen through a broken window. We put corn chips on the steps to the back door. The critter ate his way out.

25 Years Ago - July 30, 1999

  • Fishing Report: Nee Grande Reservoir-water level good, fair to good catfish; Nee Noshe Reservoir-water level good, fair to good wiper; John Martin Reservoir-water level high, crappie slow to fair.

40 Years Ago - August 3, 1984

  • Residents complained to the Eads Board of Trustees receiving notice to cut weeds within 10 days or the town would hire someone to cut and bill to them. Ordnance No 97 was passed in 1943 but had never been enforced.

50 Years Ago - August 2, 1974

  • Right after Markie, her husband and daughter flew over her parents’ house, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Bowen, their plane started giving them trouble and they crashed north of the Bowen place. They were uninjured but had to walk several miles for help. They had flown here to surprise her brother for his birthday.
