- USDA Update- Rod Johnson: We are hearing of great wheat yields from the harvest fields. This could shape up to be a record year for wheat production county-wide if we can avoid the hailstorms.
- Kit Carson Clips- Marilyn White: About every farmer you meet has a big grin on his face. Harvest is underway and I can’t remember ever seeing the wheat look so good.
- State health officials confirmed a second human case of West Nile Virus involving an individual from Cheyenne County.

July 4, 1997
- The area 14–15-year-old All Star Babe Ruth tournament will be hosted by Eads July 11-13.
- Kit Carson FFA took 11 members to the 69th Annual Colorado State FFA Convention. The chapter received a 120 percent membership award and a gold medal in the national emblem award. The chapter will go to regional to compete against the rest of the western region states.

- Volunteer workers have been busy at the Eads Community Horseshoe Pits. They have constructed three new pits, as well as rebuilding the existing two pits.
- Initial results of the spring grasshopper survey show a considerable drop in the infestation level compared to last year.
- A full day of fun is planned in Eads for the 4th of July. There will be a horseshoe tournament, children’s bicycle races-foot races- turtle races, art show, free swimming, free Watermelon Feed topped off with a fireworks display at the Kiowa County Fairgrounds.

- Don and Leta Stark are the new owners of the Towner Café. Located just south of Highway 96 will feature Mexican food, dinners, and short orders; open 6:00 a.m. -10:00 p.m. and closed Sundays.

- Two heavy discharges of dynamite were set off in the park by some of our young men who took this means to show their patriotism and devotion to their native country.
- E.G. Youtsey lost a good horse Wednesday evening. He was killed by lightning.
