- Wild Horse Roundup- Curtis Schrimp: We watched a program on TV about the dust bowl days that brought back memories. The government was buying cattle $20 for the best ones, $10 the poorest and those they just shot.

- USDA Update- Rod Johnson: A very mild winter to date with exceptions of some very cold temperatures over the holidays. The wheat should be coming out of dormancy in about a month, so wet snowfall would be beneficial.

- Nancy Barnes of Towner has been named “1983 Kiowa County Farm Wife.”
- “I’ve lived in these parts for 60 years and I’ve never seen it this cold said one ‘old timer’ living in Eads.” Temperature dropped to -27.
- Nursing Home News- LaVerne Fischer: Nine members of the Karval Keenagers arrived to entertain. They come the second Wednesday of each month.
50 Years Ago - January 18, 1974
- “The baking industry is trying to ‘hoodwink’ the American public,” according to members of the Colorado Wheat Administrative Committee. Recently, the American Bakers Association made the assertion the nation is going to run out of wheat without imports.
