Sunny skies and persistent breezes will dominate the weather in Eads and across Kiowa County through midweek, with highs near 91 Monday and 90 both Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

Monday brings sunshine and a high near 91, along with a breezy south-southeast wind of 15 to 25 mph. Monday night will be mostly clear with a low around 61 as southeast winds continue at 15 to 25 mph.

"Modest easterly flow aloft supports warm and dry conditions across much of eastern Colorado through the upcoming work week," a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Sunday's Area Forecast Discussion.

Dry, breezy pattern settles in

An upper-level ridge building over the Northern Rockies will steer warm, dry easterly flow across eastern Colorado through the week, keeping rain chances off the plains entirely. Winds will be a daily companion, with southeast gusts reaching 30 mph Tuesday and Wednesday and up to 35 mph by Thursday.

No fire weather watches or warnings were in effect for Kiowa County as of Sunday night, and the Pueblo office listed no active watches, warnings or advisories for its forecast area. Forecasters did note the continued breezy easterly flow could keep spotty critical fire conditions in place at times, mainly across interior valley locations west of the plains.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Tuesday will be sunny with a high near 90 and a breezy southeast wind of 15 to 20 mph gusting to 30 mph. Tuesday night turns clear with a low around 60 as winds ease to 10 to 15 mph after midnight.

Wednesday repeats the pattern: sunny, a high near 90, and south-southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph strengthening to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon with gusts to 30 mph. Wednesday night will be clear with a low around 60 and southeast winds of 15 to 20 mph.

Extended outlook

Thursday stays sunny and slightly warmer, with a high near 92 and south-southeast winds climbing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon, gusting as high as 35 mph. Friday brings more sunshine and a high near 94, with breezy south-southeast winds of 15 to 25 mph. Overnight lows both nights hold in the low 60s.

Beyond the workweek, Climate Prediction Center outlooks issued Sunday favor above-normal temperatures and above-normal precipitation for Colorado July 18-22, as monsoonal moisture is expected to spread north out of the Desert Southwest. Pueblo forecasters said that moisture could work into the region over the weekend into early next week.

With dry conditions and winds gusting past 30 mph most days, residents should secure loose outdoor items and use extra caution with any activity that could spark a fire.
