Plainview Junior High Knowledge Team places third at Manzanola Meet

March 1, the Plainview Junior High Knowledge Team placed third in the seventh-grade division at the Manzanola Meet. The day began early with a 6:00 a.m. departure; but once the team arrived, they were ready to compete. 

They had the highest written-round score of the seventh-grade teams. 

For the first oral round they competed against Holly and Flagler; the Hawks scored 9, while Flagler scored 2 and Holly dominated with 22 points. 

As a result of lower score in the first oral round, the Hawks went against LaJunta and Lamar A; the Hawks dominated with a score of 17 points.

In the last oral round, the top three teams—Holly (65 points), Wiley 55 points) and Plainview (55 points)—competed. It appeared that the Hawks might get a second-place win, but Wiley gained momentum, scoring 10 points to the Hawks’ 8 points. Holly scored 10 points. 

Holly placed first with a score of 75 points; Wiley placed second with a score of 65 points; Plainview placed third with a score of 63 points.

Congratulations to the team—Gael Enriquez-Munoz, Jaxson Specht, and Alexa Enriquez-Munoz. The Hawks are coached by Plainview English teacher Ruth Fees. The Hawks’ final meet was March 8 at Burlington.
