Eads faces a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday evening before drier air settles in and temperatures climb steadily through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo. Highs in Kiowa County are expected to reach the low 80s Wednesday, the upper 80s to near 90 Thursday and the low 90s by Friday.
Wednesday brings mostly cloudy skies and a high near 83, with a south wind of 10 to 15 mph increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms develops in the evening, mainly between 8 and 10 p.m., before skies turn mostly cloudy overnight with a low around 53. The chance of precipitation is 10 percent.
“Increasing coverage of thunderstorms” is expected across the region Wednesday, “especially mountains with locally heavy rainfall possible,” a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Wednesday’s Area Forecast Discussion. Forecasters said storms should stay poorly organized, with locally heavy rainfall, small hail and lightning the main risks, and noted that gusty outflow winds of up to 50 mph will be possible across the valleys.
A warming, drying trend takes hold
Drier air filters into southern Colorado behind the system, and the Weather Service expects only isolated thunderstorms Thursday and Friday as the storm focus shifts off to the plains. Temperatures rebound into the upper 80s and low 90s, and winds turn lighter after Wednesday’s breezy conditions ease. No fire-weather watches or warnings are in effect for Kiowa County; high humidity and the wet pattern are keeping fire danger low.
