Skies over Kiowa County will be mostly sunny throughout the day Saturday, becoming partly cloudy later in the afternoon as the chance of thunderstorms increases.

High temperatures will reach into the low 90s for one of the warmest days so far this year. Sunday’s highs will drop off by 25-30 degrees, reaching only into the low 60s.

Chances for showers and thunderstorms – some potentially severe – will be greatest in eastern Kiowa County, particularly for Sheridan lake and Towner. The strong to severe storms could produce wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter. While most areas will see little or no rain, areas impacted by thunderstorms may see heavy precipitation and potential for flash flooding.

Winds will be relatively light throughout the day, ranging from 5 to 15 mph.

Overnight, look for temperatures to fall to the low 50s. A strong cold front is expected to surge across the plains by midnight, accompanied by winds gusting up to 50 mph. Showers and thunderstorms will develop behind the front.

Currently, KiowaCountyPress.net Live Weather from downtown Eads shows [weather:currwinddir] wind at [weather:currwindspeed] mph. The temperature is [weather:currtemp], with [weather:currrain] inches of rain so far today. Yesterday, 0.00 inches of rain was recorded, with a high of 87. The strongest wind gust since midnight was [weather:todaymaxwindspeed] mph, while the high temperature for the day so far was [weather:todayhightemp] at [weather:todayhightemptime].

Elsewhere in Colorado, Highwaay 160 has been closed near Wolf Creek Pass by a mudslide. Continued warm temperatures have caused an increase in runoff from mountain snow melt.  Flood warnings are in effect for parts of Mineral and Conejos counties, and flood advisories are in place along portions of the Gunnison, Mancos, La Plata and San Juan Rivers in southwest Colorado.
