Town of Eads Board of Trustees meeting minutes - May 11, 2021

The Regular Meeting of the Town of Eads Board of Trustees was called to order by Mayor Shields, Tuesday May 11, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. in the Town Hall. Town Clerk, Robin Fox, took roll call:

  • Mayor – Joe D. Shields- Present
  • Trustees – Present – Dennis Pearson, Kathy McCracken, 
  • Karl Eikenberg, Justin McLoud, Meghan Buck, and Terry Riley
  • Absent –  
  • Town Clerk- Robin Fox –Present
  • Assistant Clerk- Barbara Scranton-Present
  • Director of Public Works- Van Brown- Absent
  • Town Attorney – Lance Clark - Absent
  • Guests Present – Silvia Shields, Mike Lenning, Brandy Turcotte, Koy Glover, and AJ McCracken

Reading of Ordinance 413- Mayor Shields announced that Assistant Clerk, Barbara Wilson-Scranton will be reading Ordinance 413 (Atmos Energy Franchise agreement) out loud. If anyone would like to listen to the reading they are welcome to go to the other room to listen. Barbara left and began the reading at 5:00pm. The reading was finished at 5:20pm.

Audiences/ Public Comments Period: Eads District Fire Chief, AJ McCracken, asked the Board of Trustees if they will again provide for the Annual Independence Day fireworks display. Meghan Buck motioned to provide the annual contribution of $3,500.00. Karl Eikenberg seconded. A roll call vote was taken. Justin McCloud – Yes; Meghan Buck – Yes; Dennis Pearson – Yes; Terry Riley – Abstain;  Karl Eikenberg – Yes; Kathy McCracken – Abstain. Motion passed.

Minutes­- Dennis Pearson motioned to approve the minutes as presented. Meghan Buck seconded, motion passed unanimously. 

Approval of Bills – The finance committee reviewed the bills prior to the meeting. Terry Riley motioned to approve payment of the bills ($17,732.01 Water, $10,211.14 Utility, $35,076.79 General, $643.44 Conservation, $67.08 Airport: $63,730.46 Total). Justin McLoud seconded, motion passed unanimously.

New Business: 

Swimming Pool – The Prairie Pines Board of Trustees and the Eads Board of Trustees discussed the possibility of using the pool at their facilities for swimming lessons until the Town is able to provide the community with a public swimming pool. Town Clerk, Robin Fox was asked to talk with the surrounding communities to find people the necessary certifications to make it possible. The two boards will come together again with a better idea of what each needs in order to proceed as soon as possible. 

Reading of Ordinance 413 – The reading was completed at 5:20 pm. Kathy McCracken motioned to adopt Ordinance 413. Karl Eikenberg seconded, motion passed unanimously.

Bring Up Items 

Letter Received- A letter was received an hour before the start of the May 11, 2021 meeting from Betsy A. Barnett. Town Clerk, Robin Fox provided every member of the Board of Trustees with a copy of the letter. The Board of Trustees will discuss the letter at a later date.

Adjournment- Meghan Buck motioned to adjourn the meeting. Karl Eikenberg seconded the motion. The meeting adjourned at 5:52pm.
