END OF CRP PRIMARY NESTING

July 15th was the end of the annual primary nesting season for CRP.  Non-emergency haying and grazing is available on eligible CRP contracts (excluding CRP Grassland contracts).

Few reminders below.

  • Producer must initiate the request and required paperwork with FSA, before any activity is approved by FSA, NRCS will need to make a field visit to determine if the acreage is eligible for the activity.
  • Non-emergency haying or grazing will not be considered a contract management activity.
  • If the contract acreage was grazed under emergency provisions last year or earlier this year; the contract is not eligible for non-emergency haying or grazing.
  • When requesting non-emergency haying or grazing; be absolutely certain the request will be followed through, if approved.  Which means, the fence is built, water is available or can be hauled and haying equipment is available and in working order.
  • Producers have contacted any nonresident CRP participants to obtain signatures and permission.

Below are the producer requirements for non-emergency haying and grazing.

  • Obtain a modified conservation plan to include non-emergency haying/grazing.
  • Re-establish at producer’s own expense any cover destroyed or damaged as a result of haying or grazing.
  • Not hay and graze the same acreage.

For non-emergency grazing:

  • Remove all livestock from CRP acreage no later than the end date as stipulated.
  • 25% payment reduction from annual rental payment.  The reduction can either be paid in advance or reduced from annual rental payment to be paid in October.

For non-emergency haying

  • Remove all hay from the CRP acreage within 15 days after baling.
  • Maintain 25% of the total CRP contract acres unharvested.
  • Swathing and baling must be completed no later than August 31st and hay is removed.
