Showcase Colorado Agriculture Through Pictures

 From vast wheat fields on the eastern plains and cattle grazing on lush mountain pastures to plump fruit in Western Slope orchards and chile peppers basking in the Pueblo sun, Colorado’s agricultural landscape is endless. It’s time to capture the “spirit” of Colorado agriculture through photographs. The 19th annual “Colorado…it’s AgriCultural” photography contest is seeking entries as a way to celebrate the state’s agricultural heritage.

Free Program on Hispanic Volunteers During the Sand Creek Massacre

In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, national parks all over the country are inviting Americans to come and experience the contributions of Hispanic Americans to our national history. With this in mind, Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site (NHS) will be presenting a free program commemorating Hispanic participation in the Sand Creek Massacre.

A Day In The Life

Sippy Cups.  Described by me as “An integral part of baby raising.”   Trudy and I were discussing this very thing last week in the Post Office.  When our kids were babies, sippy cups were pretty primitive.  Just your basic funny looking plastic cups with two handles.  Several different colors, but nothing to write home to Grandma about, except for the fact that they couldn’t tip them over.

More Than 1 in 4 US Adults Over 50 Do Not Engage in Regular Physical Activity

Inactivity puts 31 million at risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer

Despite the many benefits of moderate physical activity, 31 million Americans (28 percent) age 50 years and older are inactive – that is, they are not physically active beyond the basic movements needed for daily life activities. This finding comes from a new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published in today’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

Reminder: Deadline to apply for Colorado Agricultural Leadership Program is Sept. 30

The Colorado Agricultural Leadership Program (CALP) is accepting applications from emerging leaders looking to further develop their skills and their commitment to the future of Colorado’s agricultural and rural communities.

Participants in the program travel the state, learning about agriculture in every region, while also honing their personal leadership skills. As a culmination to the two-year program, the group also participates in an international trip to learn about agriculture in a foreign country and trade between that nation and the U.S.

Bipartisan Group of Senators Introduce Measure to Expedite Gold King Mine Spill Recovery

Senators Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Tom Udall (D-NM) along with Senators Michael Bennet (D-CO), Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Martin Heinrich (D-NV), and John McCain (R-AZ) introduced an amendment to the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) to address the response costs associated with the Gold King Mine spill, and direct the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to work with affected States, Indian tribes, and local governments on a long-term water quality monitoring program of the rivers contaminated by the spill.

Weekend before last, Jen Hopkins and children traveled to Woodston, KS to help her grandmother, Venda Poore celebrate her 97th birthday. 

Happy Belated Birthday Venda, hope you have many more!

Susan Greenfield would like to thank whomever cut down the bushes along the highway on her street.  You can now easily see oncoming traffic when stopped at the stop sign.

Dick and I traveled to Pueblo last Wednesday to do some shopping and to consult with his eye Dr.
