The 11^th annual Holly Junior High School Wildcat Pride Basketball Tournament has been set for Saturday, January 7. Games are set to begin at 8:30 a.m.

In the first round, the Eads girls will face Holly in match-up taking place in Shanner (old) gymnasium. Boys from both schools will face off at the same time in the high school gymnasium.

McClave and Walsh’s girls face off in the high school gym at 9:45 a.m., while the boys from both schools meet in the high school gym.

The Prairie Queen 4-H Club held their year-end meeting on December 4^th, 2016, at the Kiowa County Courthouse.  Members and guests enjoyed a pot luck taco dinner, and afterwards the members put together gift bags, including small wreathes made out of bells which were added to the bags.  These were taken by members to the residents of Prairie Pines, the ECU at Weidbrod Hospital, with some also taken to elderly in Eads and Haswell.

FY 2016 Rural Development Progress Report Released

Fremont County, Iowa, deputies and the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner have identified a man found dead beneath a bridge in Sidney.

Larry Eugene Burns II, 39, of Lamar, died due to blunt force trauma due to the fall, and hypothermia. His death was initially considered suspicious.

Burns last contacted relatives November 22, and his body was discovered December 11 by deer hunters underneath the Highway 2 bridge, which crosses the Missouri River. Deputies believe Burns was walking along the westbound shoulder of the bridge when he fell.
