Local and area students from Colorado are among 616 who completed associate, bachelor's or graduate degrees at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas, in the summer 2018 term. 

Graduates are listed with their degrees and majors and, in parentheses, areas of concentration. The university conferred 149 graduate degrees (master's, Education Specialist and Doctor of Nursing Practice), 454 bachelor's degrees and 13 associate degrees.

Virgil Laverne Drescher was born January 3, 1952, in Lamar, Colorado, at the St. Catherine Hospital to Theodore Wilbur Drescher and Annabelle Marie Drescher. He passed away suddenly August 28, 2018, in the Aurora Medical Trauma Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. Upon his death he successfully donated his corneas to the national eye bank.

All are invited to attend a graveside memorial service Sunday, September 2, 2018, at 2:00 PM at the Kit Carson Cemetery to celebrate the life of Yvonne Schallenberger.

After the brief service, all are invited back to the Kit Carson United Methodist Church at 3:00 p.m. for some light refreshments and conversation with family and friends.

A memorial service for longtime Lamar resident, Mike Benge will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2018, at the Lamar Christian Church with Ian Blacker officiating.

Per Mike's request cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation.

Mike was born on February 21, 1952, in Palmyra, Missouri, to Kenneth Myers and Alice Kline, and departed this life Friday August 10, 2018, near Lamar at the age of 66.

Linda L. Clark, a long-time resident of Yuma County, passed away in her home in Kirk on the afternoon of July 31, 2018 at the age of 86, with her family at her side.

Linda's father was a station agent for the Soo Line Railroad and Linda grew up in the Soo Line Depot in Henning, Minnesota. After high school, she received a lifetime teaching certificate from Bemidji State Teachers College.

Yvonne Elizabeth Lyon was born December 15, 1932, in Sterling, Colorado. Parents, Leslie and Pauline Lyon, along with older brother Jack welcomed her home.

Yvonne attended Sterling public schools, graduating in 1951.  She attended Colorado A&M in Fort Collins where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Home Economics.
