“God is here to help me in every situation.” Psalm 3

Last Friday, the Eads Eagle fans came home happy after a big win over the Cheraw Wolverines. This weekend, on their home field, they are playing the Walsh Eagles for homecoming games. Fans are looking forward to that game as well as the volleyball matches played at the east end of the county in the Plainview gymnasium. This is because it is taking many months to restore the Eads gymnasium to its beautiful shine and design after it was badly damaged by water. Last week the Lady Eagle volleyball team came home from three different towns with wins in Springfield, Campo, and Cheraw.

The excitement around Eads last week was at the Eads schools during homecoming week with “dress up days,” decorating, and education. The names of the homecoming court are seniors, Katie Johnson, Madison McDowell, Briannna Wilson-Scranton, Keenan Smith, Nathan Lowe, and Owen Sorter; juniors, Landri Tuttle and Graysen Wollert; sophomores, Lexi Shotton and Johnny Vasques; and freshman class representatives were Giana Gibbs and Alyxx Egley. They are lovely and handsome young people who also rode on flashy vehicles in the county fair parade.

Kiowa County residents have been asked to fill out the questionnaire posted on the internet or those little square boxes in the newspapers. The truth is that many citizens, especially older citizens, of which that is quite the majority of the population in the county, just do not know how to access that information. We were so grateful that Joyce Berry printed off copies so those who came to the Monday coffee hour could fill them out so the Weisbrod Hospital leaders will know what the public wants in healthcare. We understand that if the grants come through, a clinic will be constructed first, then the hospital complex. It would be wonderful if we didn’t have to find specialists or rides to another town for these yearly, monthly, or two-a-month appointments. If a person sits in our clinic or the hospital waiting room for a traveling specialist doctor, one realizes that many people from other towns come to Eads to meet with a doctor.

Senior citizens are invited to the monthly brunch at 10:00 a.m. at the Eads Senior Citizen Center. It is appropriate to bring a side dish to be served potluck-style, or donate about $3 or more. Enjoy the good food, beverages, and visit with others.

Gail Voss, the proud grandmother of Molly Stolzenberger, has been showing us some wonderful photos of the lovely wedding in Hugo of Molly and Johnathan. Molly’s family, and especially her father, constructed so many things of wood for serving cookies and cake pops, the arch, and other lovely items of décor. The one that touched my heart was of Darryl putting a 1946 coin in Molly’s shoe. That was the year of her dear grandfather, Larry Michael’s, birth, year who died this year.

Reader Friends, have you taken time to visit folks at Prairie Pines Assisted Living Center or the Weisbrod Extended Care Unit? Or have you called up a relative or friend to say, “hello?” Or told a worker or student that you appreciate them?

It has been interesting to read the results of the fair judging of 4-H and Future Farmers of America project results in our newspapers, as well as the results of the horse races and other competitions.

This is the sixth year of the Harris family’s farm pumpkin patch. I have seen so many delightful photos of how children can enjoy a maze, face painting, hayride, and other fun activities, as well as finding and picking out a pumpkin to take home on any one of four Sundays in October between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. Their farm is just off Highway 96 at Sheridan Lake where you turn north on Highway 385 in the town and follow the road around the curve to turn right into the pumpkin farm for lots of fun.

We will be eager to know the results from the “Chamber After Hours” gathering that was scheduled for Monday, October 2, at Prairie Pines. At this meeting, Cindy McLoud will introduce Gayle Langley, who will to tell people how our town can access the resources related to Colorado Department of Local Affairs grants.

My lifestyle is more confined than it has been for the last 74 years, which has meant this year, for the first time in my life, I cannot go to all those school activities and ball games as I love to attend, or go to my church. So, if you have news or an activity you would like typed for the news, call me at my home number, 719-438-5665.

We are happy in our neighborhood that Rich and Dianne O’Brian are safely home from their road trip vacation to visit some of their six children and other relatives in the United States, especially Alabama that is so dear to Rich’s heart.

The Haswell community is going to have two nights to play cards. I read a memo that the men are taking turns to bring refreshments. Don’t forget the Haswell Community Bazaar is October 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Jaton (King) Wallace, Weisbrod Activities Director, wishes to invite the public to come to the coffee hour any and every Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. When my Mother and Daddy lived in the nursing home, there were many people who came to visit and enjoy the “treat” and a beverage. That was week after week, year after year. Unfortunately, that is another problem and after effect of COVID – that is I do believe - that people choose to stay home more. Don’t be shy, just speak to Candy Lane at the reception window and then turn left to the large dining room.
