Jesus said, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I’m there with them.” Matthew 18:20 CEB
The thought with that scripture is that we can use times of waiting to connect with God. I find that to be true of my life often.
Monday was the annual day for the 4-H Achievement Day Fair. The 4-H members set their exhibits up in the Eads Senior Citizen Center, which has been a nice setting for several years. Extension Agent Tearle Lessenden and his assistant, Krystal Eikenberg, hosted the evening showing of exhibits, awarded ribbons placings, and, to those who earned top placings, showings at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo. The auctioneer for the food sale items was Tearle. Thank you to parents and office staff for a good day and evening.
August 1 was a lot of fun for the Weisbrod residents to watch little ones play on the patio. Some grandchildren and a bunch of their friends came to the patio to play games down below the balcony. One game took a lot of precision, as one child lifted out one or more colorful plastic balls with their feet from a bucket of water and set them into the next child’s water bucket. Brenda Leon, with the help of Weisbrod employees Jeremy Brown and Brentley Lening, lifted off colorful table clothes to reveal yet another fun game. At one point, Brenda gave them a “gift,” which they had to hammer carefully to get the delightful prize out of the ice in two Styrofoam cups. After six stations of games, they visited while enjoying a pop cycle. Thank you to parents who take the time to bring your children to visit us. It is a joy.
Some of us were so looking forward to the last “Bash” - an evening in the park listening to wonderful music! August 1, Jamie Crockett and the lovely Brianna Rose Echols sang, and then the rain came, and it poured! I left before I wanted to, but I didn’t want to take a chance on getting my wheelchair wet!
On the way to church, I was woefully telling Pastor Barton and Bob Norland that I didn’t get to hear much of Breanna’s singing or see what clothes she wore. Then Bob opened his phone so I could see photos of both these wonderful singers and musicians! What a blessing to have Jamie right near us in Eads, and Breanna up in Kit Carson!
Another joy for us this week Ginger Ingram Brown, who has traveled to Africa, Israel, and all over the United States to present messages or stories to people in hospitals, camps, and nursing homes, then here to Eads. At nursing homes in general, she sees many people who are lonely. They are lonely because, so often, families do not take the time to visit them. The little children who came and sat on the floor in front of us seemed to enjoy the puppet’s stories and dialogue as much as we did. As a ventriloquist, this charming lady held us spell bound.
August 10 was scheduled to be Betty Crow’s 90th birthday party at the Eads Senior Citizen Center. More later on that.
August 10 was the Haswell card party, and August 20 will be the Eads senior dinner.
Johnny Leon will be entertaining us with Karaoke music in the Weisbrod courtyard from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. August 15. You are welcome to join us.
Congratulations to the organizers of the seafood broil and auction honoring Gail Crawford. This was a productive effort which earned $50,000 or more to build a type of community gym.
We surely missed our summer activity assistant, Bailly Sierra, last week for several days while she traveled to Fowler to play. I heard from one mother that the Eads team played 17 volleyball games in Fowler. Wow. Doesn’t that get you excited for volleyball sports. Those games begin, according to the Eads School calendar, August 22, vs. Seirra Grande.
I am so grateful to Gail Voss, who was such a good driver and shopper for me to go to Pueblo to the doctor and shopping for art supplies. We especially enjoyed seeing the pretty sunflowers on the drive to the city, and the extra rain that Kiowa County has received. Gail is a helpful blessing to me, and to so many people in our county.
According to the Eads School yearbook advisor, the year books are in at the high school. They will be selling for $40. If your family wants to buy one, you may call Denise Nelson at the high school. I look at my last year’s book every Saturday night while I dry my hair because I want to be more acquainted with the students.
Case Nelson, an Eads High School graduate this past school year, is on his way this month to McPherson College in Kansas. The surprising fact is that he didn’t apply to McPherson, but the McPherson coach sought Case out to recruit him. The coach had not met Case, but he was in Eads many years ago with a college group that had helped Pastor Parker and the Baptist Church family organize a two-night activity. Both of Pastor and Mrs. Parker’s sons became outstanding baseball players. So, maybe they see potential in our Case Nelson. We look forward to this young man accomplishing his dreams.
