“A generous person will prosper” Proverbs 11:25

Many years ago, Joe Schmitt and his wife, Faye, and four children lived in Eads before they moved to near Denver. All the years afterwards, he sent turkeys to the senior center director us for the annual dinner. Even though he died many years ago, his daughter, Masha Mousel, has continued that tradition. However, in recent years, it takes more than one turkey. This year, her daughter, Pam, and Kent and Brent Stoker, brought down four turkeys to Gail Voss to roast. Gail roasted two, and Tim Heir and his grandson smoked two in his smokers. Marsha is so kind to also shop for and buy many paper supplies for our Eads Senior Citizen Center. Isn’t it heart-warming to see and feel how kindly some people think of their home town? Yes! Another alumnus who often quietly donates to memorials and projects around town is Jim Garner.

Last Friday. I was pleasantly surprised by a visit from Nola Engstrom. She told me that she is 90 years old/young. I was glad that her great grandson, Tatum Smith, was gently holding her arm as they walked away, Nola gave me a wonderful gift of a gold pen in a box that was made of some wood from our former high school gym floor. I am thrilled! You know, I do love my Eads High School, and have lots of happy memories there.

We get to see another “angel” person nearly every day. That is Sara Seibel Ferris. She liked to work in senior homes, and in the home health situations. Now in Eads she spends most days and weekends here at Weisbrod, or at Prairie Pines, or on the road helping unwell people, like Amy Barton, who is dealing with cancer treatments now.

The Crow-Luther Culture Events Center, also known as the Plains Theater in Eads, was well packed for three nights last week. The first stage play with adults and youth made history. “The Community Garden,” directed by Morena Lowe, made history with her enthusiastic cast. Some adults I didn’t recognize. One person whom I thought was a young boy was actually a nice lady! Brandon and Angela Hoffman were great also because they were involved in what their sons are interested in: the theatre.

When Breanna Echols of Kit Carson began to sing and speak in her concert Sunday evening, the Plains Theatre was suddenly transformed by the most professionally loud understandable lovely sound I have ever heard in Eads America. I knew she must be a good singer because she traveled for 14 years with her family as country gospel singers, but I was unprepared to hear such astounding good quality of sound, diction, and professionalism! Besides being a beautiful blonde lady, her glittery attire was so attractive. Her young daughters sang the National Anthem at the beginning. I knew they were good singers with their little brother because I heard them at the Kit Carson Trinity Lutheran vacation Bible school. At the concert, Breanna shared that she met a man from Holly, married later at age 18, and moved to Wild Horse to be a rancher’s wife. After hearing Breanna sing, I thought how blessed we are to have Breanna Rose in southeast Colorado, and I hope Las Vegas or Nashville doesn’t snatch her away for many years yet!

Congratulations to Paul and René Zimmerman, who have been married 50 years November 22. Their children, Rachel and Michael Zimmerman and families, suggest that you may like to send them a card at 21190 County Road 88, Haswell, CO 81045.

I am sad to write that two highly regarded friends have died. First, Rose Lujan in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the other is Jack Johnson, formerly of Wild Horse and Kit Carson. During his work career, he lived in many African and southeastern countries as an oil engineer. Jack was a former writer for local newspapers.

The Eads High School Lady Eagles won the Knights of Columbus annual tournament championship. The young ladies have lots of wins under then coaching of Justin McCloud and assisted by Monty Eder. They are: Peyton Williams, Presley McLoud, Aubrey Mitchek, Carmen McPherson, Reese Barnett, Itzi Ramirez, Rachel Bletzacker, and Tinley Lawrence.

LaVerle Kelley’s lovely granddaughter comes to visit her between restoring jobs in the new home she is making for her sons, Damion and Romin, in the former Wayne Singer house in Eads. Her brother, Kawika (pronounced Kaveeka, which means “David” in Hawaiian) and Vivian moved here from Hawaii. She is the pretty girl who works in Crow’s Stop and Shop. Kawika, who is 6’ 8”, works for the county road and bridge crew out of Haswell. He loves loving here and learning all these new mechanical skills.
