  • Langin was the most popular variety seeded in Colorado, for the second consecutive year, planted on 20.7 percent of the acreage for the 2021 crop compared with 20.1 percent for the 2020 crop.
  • Avery was the second most popular variety, accounting for 14.2 percent of the acreage.
  • Byrd maintained third place by accounting for 13.1 percent of the acreage.
  • Crescent AX moved up from ninth place to fourth place with 5.5 percent of the acreage.
  • Hatcher maintained fifth place with 4.8 percent of the acreage. The top five varieties accounted for 58.3 percent of the acreage seeded.
  • Brawl CL Plus maintained sixth place with 4.1 percent of the acreage.
  • Denali claimed seventh place with 3.1 percent of the acreage.
  • Byrd CL Plus claimed eighth place with 2.9 percent of the acreage seeded this year.
  • LCS Mint moved down from eight place to ninth place by accounting for 2.8 percent of the acreage seeded.
  • Snowmass 2.0 completes the top ten with 2.6 percent of the acreage seeded.

The top ten varieties represented 73.8 percent of the state's total acreage seeded for the 2021 crop. The 2020 top ten varieties accounted for 70.6 percent of the total seeded acreage. Colorado wheat producers reported that 47.6 percent of their seed planted was certified wheat seed. The survey of winter wheat producers in Colorado was not sampled to provide a direct expansion of the seeded acreage by variety or a measure of the sampling error.
