Ag stats: mountain states grain stocks report for December 2018

ARIZONA 

Off-farm corn stocks in Arizona on December 1, 2018 were 4.02 million bushels, up 1 percent from December 1, 2017, according to the December 1 Agricultural Survey and December Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Off-farm all wheat stocks in Arizona on December 1, 2018 were 6.59 million bushels, up 54 percent from last year. Other Arizona grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in Arizona totaled 19.00 million bushels on December 1, 2018, down 5 percent from December 1, 2017. 

COLORADO 

All corn stocks in Colorado on December 1, 2018 were 111.57 million bushels, down 7 percent from December 1, 2017, according to the December 1 Agricultural Survey and December Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. All corn stocks stored on farms amounted to 66.00 million bushels, down 4 percent from a year ago. All corn stored off farms amounted to 45.57 million bushels, down 10 percent from a year ago. Off-farm oat stocks in Colorado were estimated at 61,000 bushels, down 9 percent from last year. Off-farm barley stocks totaled 6.85 million bushels, down 8 percent from last year. 

All wheat stocks in Colorado on December 1, 2018 were 49.33 million bushels, down 7 percent from December 1, 2017. All wheat stocks stored on farms amounted to 14.50 million bushels, up 16 percent from a year ago. All wheat stored off farms amounted to 34.83 million bushels, down 14 percent from a year ago. Other Colorado grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

Colorado’s on-farm storage capacity totaled 170.00 million bushels on December 1, 2018, down 6 percent from the December 1, 2017 estimate. Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in Colorado totaled 136.00 million bushels on December 1, 2018, unchanged from December 1, 2017. 

MONTANA 

All oat stocks in Montana on December 1, 2018 were 836,000 bushels, up 6 percent from December 1, 2017, according to the December 1 Agricultural Survey and December Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. On-farm oat stocks were 800,000 bushels, up 14 percent from a year ago. Oats stored off-farm were down 60 percent from last year to 36,000 bushels. Montana barley stocks in all positions on December 1, 2018 were 32.13 million bushels, up 10 percent from a year ago. Barley stored on farms totaled 19.50 million bushels, up 8 percent from last year. Off-farm barley storage was up 13 percent from a year ago to 12.63 million bushels. 

All wheat stocks in Montana on December 1, 2018 were 150.93 million bushels, up 38 percent from December 1, 2017. All wheat stocks stored on farms amounted to 112.00 million bushels, up 47 percent from a year ago. All wheat stored off farms amounted to 38.93 million bushels, up 16 percent from a year ago. Durum wheat stocks on December 1, 2018 were 21.77 million bushels, up 70 percent from a year ago. Other Montana grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations.

Montana’s on-farm storage capacity totaled 340.00 million bushels on December 1, 2018, unchanged from the December 1, 2017 estimate. Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in Montana totaled 90.00 million bushels on December 1, 2018, up 3 percent from December 1, 2017. 

NEW MEXICO 

New Mexico grain stocks on December 1, 2018 were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in New Mexico totaled 13.50 million bushels on December 1, 2018, unchanged from December 1, 2017. 

UTAH 

Off-farm corn stocks in Utah on December 1, 2018 were 680,000 bushels, up 22 percent from December 1, 2017, according to the December 1 Agricultural Survey and December Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Off-farm oat stocks in Utah were estimated at 23,000 bushels. Off-farm all wheat stocks in Utah on December 1, 2018 were 5.03 million bushels, down 12 percent from last year. Other Utah grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in Utah totaled 18.00 million bushels on December 1, 2018, unchanged from December 1, 2017. 

WYOMING 

Off-farm barley stocks in Wyoming on December 1, 2018 totaled 4.19 million bushels, down 29 percent from December 1, 2017, according to the December 1 Agricultural Survey and December Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Other Wyoming grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations. 

Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in Wyoming totaled 11.00 million bushels on December 1, 2018, down 8 percent from December 1, 2017. 

UNITED STATES 

Corn stored in all positions on December 1, 2018 totaled 12.0 billion bushels, down 5 percent from December 1, 2017. Of the total stocks, 7.45 billion bushels are stored on farms, down 4 percent from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, at 4.50 billion bushels, are down 7 percent from a year ago. The September - November 2018 indicated disappearance is 4.61 billion bushels, compared with 4.34 billion bushels during the same period last year. 

Grain sorghum stored in all positions on December 1, 2018 totaled 246 million bushels, up 8 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at 36.8 million bushels, are up 9 percent from December 1 last year. Off-farm stocks, at 210 million bushels, are up 8 percent from a year earlier. The September - November 2018 indicated disappearance from all positions is 154 million bushels, down 9 percent from the same period in 2017. 

Oats stored in all positions on December 1, 2018 totaled 67.2 million bushels, up 1 percent from the stocks on December 1, 2017. Of the total stocks on hand, 25.4 million bushels are stored on farms, up 9 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks totaled 41.8 million bushels, down 3 percent from the previous year. Indicated disappearance during September - November 2018 totaled 7.54 million bushels. 

Barley stored in all positions on December 1, 2018 totaled 153 million bushels, down 4 percent from December 1, 2017. On-farm stocks are estimated at 72.0 million bushels, 3 percent below a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 80.8 million bushels, are 4 percent below December 2017. The September - November 2018 indicated disappearance is 22.1 million bushels, up 6 percent from the same period a year earlier. 

All wheat stored in all positions on December 1, 2018 totaled 2.00 billion bushels, up 7 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks are estimated at 504 million bushels, up 28 percent from last December. Off-farm stocks, at 1.50 billion bushels, are up 1 percent from a year ago. The September - November 2018 indicated disappearance is 390 million bushels, 1 percent below the same period a year earlier. 

Durum wheat stored in all positions on December 1, 2018 totaled 83.6 million bushels, up 49 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at 46.7 million bushels, are up 52 percent from December 1, 2017. Off-farm stocks totaled 36.9 million bushels, up 46 percent from a year ago. The September - November 2018 indicated disappearance of 6.45 million bushels is 36 percent below the same period a year earlier. 

Pulse crops stored in all positions on December 1, 2018 are: dry edible peas, 10.3 million cwt, up 8 percent from a year ago; lentils, 5.85 million cwt, up 40 percent from December 1 last year;Austrian winter peas, 180 thousand cwt, down 23 percent from a year earlier; all chickpeas, 6.09 million cwt, up 132 percent from December 1, 2017; small chickpeas, 1.66 million cwt, up 64 percent from a year earlier; and large chickpeas, 4.43 million cwt, up 174 percent from the same period in 2017. 

The United States on-farm storage capacity totaled 13.5 billion bushels on December 1, 2018, up 1 percent from the December 1, 2017 estimate. Capacity of off-farm commercial grain storage in the United States totaled 11.5 billion bushels on December 1, 2018, up 2 percent from the December 1, 2017 total.
