Shortly after 5:00 a.m. Sunday, the Colorado State Patrol responded to a report of a body found along the side of Highway 50 in Delta County near Starr Nelson Road.

The initial call was received by Mesa County Dispatch from a driver who reported that they may have hit a person. Under further investigation, it was determined that a pedestrian was struck in the middle of the westbound lane of Highway 50, and had been hit by multiple vehicles. Two drivers are cooperating with investigators. A third vehicle may also be involved based upon evidence at the scene.

The Colorado Department of Transportation shows westbound Highway 50 is closed while the investigation continues. Traffic is being detoured Colorado Highway 92E and Colorado Highway 65N over Grand Mesa. CSP expects the closure to continue to as late as 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Extended delays are expected, and CSP recommends using alternate routes.
