Cooler temperatures, rain ahead for southeast Colorado
Kiowa and Cheyenne counties, along with the rest of southeast Colorado, can expect rain and cooler temperatures for the next few days ahead of a weekend warm up.
Eads and Cheyenne Wells can look for afternoon and evening thunderstorms Wednesday, mainly between 4:00 and 9:00 p.m. Daytime highs will be in the low 90s before falling to the low 60s overnight. Hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter and storms reaching severe levels are possible.
Thursday sees an increase in the thunderstorms beginning before noon, and increasing as the day progresses. Some storms could produce heavy rain and reach the severe category. Daytime temperatures are expected to be in the low 80s, dropping to the upper 50s overnight as rain and thunderstorms continue. Thursday also brings a risk of hail across the southeast corner of the state, along with a slight chance for weak tornadoes in the area. Localized flash flooding is possible from heavy rainfall.
High temperatures fall further Friday, with mid- to upper 70s predicted. Chances for rain decrease, especially for Cheyenne Wells. Overnight, look for lows in the mid-50s
Going into the weekend, drier conditions prevail, and daytime highs begin to rebound, reaching the mid-80s Saturday. Sunday and Monday, temperatures further increase to the low to mid-90s
