A former San Miguel County, Colorado, sheriff’s deputy accused of child exploitation crimes was caught in Mexico and brought back to the U.S. Friday, according to a media release from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

Jesus Damian Nieblas, 34, was arrested by Mexican police in the border town of Agua Prieta on or around September 29, according to CBI. He was handed over to U.S. Marshals at the Douglas, Arizona, border crossing.

Nieblas had been on the run since July 10, 2025, after Colorado investigators executed a search warrant at his home and vehicle in Norwood. During that search, evidence was found that led to multiple felony charges.

He is now being held at the Cochise County Jail in Bisbee, Arizona. His bond is set at $100,000, and it must be paid in cash.

The charges against Nieblas include:

  • One count of Sexual Exploitation of a Child (Class 3 Felony)
  • Eleven counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Child (Class 4 Felony)
  • Sixteen counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Child (Class 5 Felony)
  • Twenty-seven counts of Failure to Report Child Abuse or Neglect (Class 2 Misdemeanor)

CBI and the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office learned Nieblas was in custody September 29 but were unable to release the information until Friday due to legal processes.

Nieblas worked as a deputy in San Miguel County before his arrest. He has not yet appeared in court.
