Fun outdoor activities you should try at least once
Do you love spending time outdoors and want to try something new? Or do you normally stay inside but feel up for an outdoor adventure? Get some fresh air and surprise yourself with something exciting and new—check out these fun outdoor activities you should try at least once.
1. Ride a horse
If you’ve never been horseback riding before, joining a group ride can be a safe, fun way to enjoy this experience. With a tour, you can enjoy a leisurely trip through the backcountry.
States in the West have beautiful horseback trails, and Colorado is no exception. Depending on your location, you could ride through a forest, across a river, or through a meadow. This is an iconic fun outdoor activity you should try at least once.
2. Go off-roading
If you want to try something more off the beaten path, go off-roading. This is a truly unique way to interact with nature, and Colorado is home to some of the best off-roading trails.
Customize your trip to suit your needs. Counter to the popular portrayal of this pastime, you don’t have to climb dangerously steep mountains. You can take a guided off-roading tour or plan and prepare your own off-road adventure. No matter what you decide, be sure to have companions with you.
3. Kayak on a lake
Kayaking is low-impact exercise that will propel you through some of the most beautiful places you’ll ever see. As you kayak, use the proper paddling form—called the paddler’s box—to efficiently move through the water. Go on a warm, windless day; wear sunscreen; and pack snacks and water. Or make it a full day and bring a lunch to eat with friends. Whatever you do, stay alert on the water to navigate safely.
4. Stargaze
One of the best outdoor activities is something you can only experience at night. If you’ve never gone stargazing, you might be surprised by just how breathtaking and calming it can be. For the best experience, plan your getaway on a clear night when the sky is not overcast. Check the temperature and wind chill factor, and dress for the conditions. Get far away from city lights and find a spot where nothing, including tree branches, blocks your view of the sky.
If you want to sit comfortably in a chair, you can get a stargazing camping chair that supports you as you sit back with your head tilted upward. You can even download astronomy apps to your smartphone to understand more about what you’re looking at.
