Lamar and Prowers County will enjoy sunny, warm weather from Monday through Wednesday, with highs near 82 degrees Monday, 85 on Tuesday and 81 on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

Monday will be sunny with a southeast wind of 10 to 15 mph turning south-southwest during the morning. Monday night will be mostly clear with a low around 52.

“Warm and dry conditions will continue through the rest of this week,” a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Sunday’s Area Forecast Discussion. The forecaster said highs on the plains will be in the low 80s Monday.

No warnings in effect; windier weather late in the week

No watches, warnings or advisories were listed for the Pueblo forecast area in Sunday night’s discussion, and no Red Flag Warning was in effect for Prowers County. Winds are light through midweek, which keeps fire danger in check despite the warmth. Winds pick up late in the week, though, with gusty conditions in the forecast for Friday night and the weekend.

Tuesday and Wednesday

Tuesday will be sunny and the warmest day of the week, with a high near 85 and a west wind of 5 to 10 mph that turns south-southeast in the afternoon. The low Tuesday night is around 53.

Wednesday stays sunny with a high near 81 and light winds around 5 mph. Wednesday night will be mostly clear with a low near 53.

Extended outlook

Thursday is forecast to be sunny with a high near 81, and Friday sunny with a high near 80. Friday night turns breezy, with a south-southeast wind of 15 to 20 mph and gusts as high as 35 mph. The Lamar forecast shows gusts as high as 30 mph Saturday and as high as 45 mph Saturday night.

Pueblo forecasters said models disagree about the weekend and early next week, with a broad trough possibly moving in from the Pacific Northwest and a potentially more active pattern. They cautioned the forecast could change. Extended Climate Prediction Center outlook probabilities were not included because the National Weather Service forecast already covers Thursday and Friday.

With strong gusts possible by the weekend, residents should secure loose outdoor items and check updated forecasts and any fire-weather statements later in the week.
