  • Plains Hotel Bed and Breakfast in Cheyenne Wells will celebrate their grand opening by having concert and barbecue.
  • Wild Horse Roundup- Curtis Schrimp: Wild Horse made the weather news when a tornado was sighted five miles south. I was told it didn’t hit anything.
  • Wild Horse Roundup- Curtis Schrimp: We have been invaded by turkeys. There are three hens and 9 or 10 young ones.
  • East End Events- Sharon Scott: Nine people enjoyed the School Alumni Reunion at the Towner Hall.

25 Years Ago - August 6, 1999

  • Nursing Home News- Nellie Nickert: We had a watermelon feed Thursday evening. Watermelon is always a summer favorite.
  • About Town- Ida Lessenden: How nice to see an oil well being drilled in yet another site just south on the banks of Rush Creek about and eighth mile from the highway.

  • Catherine Scherler of Sheridan Lake was recently named Queen of the International Flying Farmers.

  • The Howl & Growl 4-H Dog Club is sponsoring an open dog show in front of the grandstand at the fairgrounds in Eads.

75 Years Ago - August 5, 1949

  • A.C Vanderwork reported 30 bushels of wheat per acre on a quarter section. Earl Konnecne had 25 bushels on one field.

100 Years Ago - 1924

  • Chivington now has one of the latest improved filling stations. Tourists and residents can now be supplied with “gas” without leaving the boulevard.
