  • About Town- Doris Lessenden & Melissa Peterson: Shoppers spend part of two days at the GarSales in Kit Carson. I counted 28 yard sales and two auctions and vendors about town.

25 Years Ago - June 8, 2001

  • Funnel clouds and tornados were spotted west of Eads and north of the Prairie Queen area.
  • USDA Update- Rod Johnson: FSA still hasn’t received word on when the Livestock Assistance Program payment will be issued.

40 Years Ago - June 6, 1986

  • Appreciation Day June 7: Free Swimming at the Eads Pool.
  • The Kiowa County Commissioners adopted a resolution which will increase their salaries by 25%. This also includes the county Assessor, Clerk & Recorder, Treasurer and Sheriff offices.

50 Years Ago - June 4, 1976

  • The Eugene Splitter farm at Sheridan Lake is one of three southeast Colorado farms which are to be the site of field day programs for dryland wheat variety tests.

75 Years Ago - June 8, 1951

  • Mrs. Mary Harmon receive her 50 Year pin as a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.

100 Years Ago - June 11, 1926

  • Rains fell over the county and helped boost the prospects for a bumper crop this season.
  • The firm of Whitelaw & Co. sold outs stock of dry goods and groceries to Higginbottom Brothers. The groceries stock was then sold to the Yehle Mercantile Co & to W.W. Schoggen.
  • The Kansas-Colorado Boulevard will be graveled between Eads and Galatea, distance of 14 miles.
  • Advertisement: Ice – Delivered at your door Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Sundays at the elevator from 8-9 Infield Grain Company, Eads.
