  • Over forty singers came to the first Cantata practice. The directors say they still welcome more to come to the practices.
  • Wild Horse Roundup-Curtis Schrimp: the old depot (museum) brings back a memory of when I sat in it in 1927. My mom, sister and I were coming to Wild Horse to live. The train’s last stop, I think, was Sharon Springs, but the conductor thought going to have some trouble in Kit Carson & to have our luggage ready to get off. We had to wait for a train called the Jitney. It had a coach and baggage car and run by two Pierce Arrow car engines that stopped for everything. We finally got to Wild Horse

  • Nursing Home News-LaVerne Fischer: A perfect day for residents, their families, and friends to enjoy a bountiful Thanksgiving dinner together. The turkey done to perfection, the dressing, mash potatoes delicious and the salad and desert tables groaned under the many many dishes. There were approximately 250 present.

  • Justin Ellicott, son of Mr. & Mrs. George Ellicott, will be spending part of his Thanksgiving vacation at the 57thAnnual National 4-H Congress in Chicago.

  • Drilling at No.1 Norman, northeast of Eads, had reached a depth of 3540 feet.
  • Chivington News: The Prairie Dogs, led by Tom Owens, won the recent Sunday School contest at the local church. The Greyhounds, owned by Gilbert Brown, treated the winning team to ice cream and cake.

November 19, 1943

  • There will be a dance at the American Legion Hall. Hi Walks, popular entertainer, will be there and says he wants to show all the soldier boys home on furlough a good time.
  • J.B. Miller, County Chairman for the United War Chest Drive, is pleased to announce that Kiowa County not only met the quota for this worthy cause, but figures show it has been exceeded by 65%.

November 22, 1918

  • G.A. Hines has returned home from Chivington where he has been assisting in the construction of the new school building. Work is being delayed on account of bad weather.
  • Burt Patton sold his vulcanizing business to Howard Sunday. Burt has an interest in the Eads elevator which is getting ready for business and he will devote his time to this.
